1/19/20 23/100 Ferrari F40
Ok, now things go back to the predecessors of the two previous cars in this series with the first being the Ferrari F40, Enzo Ferrari’s last car he oversaw and one of the legends in exotic car history. A race car for the road, replicated by many diecast manufacturers over the years and still by far very popular, though this Matchbox casting started out nice at first, then endured the wacky colors of the Tyco era before finally settling down on this simple red with red interior paint scheme for 2000. Never before has the body been this clean and sharp where you can see the details like the NACA ducts on the hood and sides, the clear covers for the signal and foglights up front, and the rear wing with detailed round taillights and tri-exhaust tips. The 5-spoke wheels look nice here, though the car tends to sit higher than it should be. Like the F50 the interior is bare bones for a race car, and while it lacks the opening hood of the Hot Wheels F40 it does have some visible details under the vented cover out back including the dual intercoolers for the turbos. While this Matchbox casting could get lost in a sea of F40 replicas out there, including some finer versions, this last call for 2000 goes back to the original red and looks the best it’s ever been!
