2/9/20 44/100 Audi TT coupe
Now for another Matchbox casting that debut in the ROW line in 1999 and then finally arriving in the U.S. for 2000, the Audi TT coupe in stunning blue with Audi rings on the sides. The car joins the Concept 1 in an array of stunning concepts from the VW group that would go into production, and like the New Beetle all based on the VW Golf platform. For 2000 it comes in coupe and convertible with rounded styling reminiscent of the Audi Union race cars of the 1930’s and looked good from any angle. The interior has a tectonic look with round gauges and vents and silver trim accents around the cabin, while the rear hatch opens from the smooth coupe roofline to create useable cargo space. A 1.8 L Turbo I-4 to a 5-speed manual gives the moves for this sleek car that handles quite well with a working suspension and with the Audi Quattro all-wheel drive system it grips really good as well. The TT coupe got more use before year’s end and in 2001 a Roadster joined the lineup and interestingly enough in 2005 the coupe was retooled to contain a rear spoiler (the roadster already had this) that was mandated by Audi due to the excess rear lift caused by the smooth rear end on the real car causing accidents. A very nice car that would look great with front and rear lighting details, which it would get in the late 2000’s.
